Which module size?
For printed product labels, modules of about 0.25 to 0.6 mm are common. GS1's General Specifications give the exact range for each use, and direct part marks often go smaller. Test with the scanner that will read them.
Type text or a link, or switch to GS1 and fill in the GTIN, batch, expiry and serial.
Pick square or rectangular and a size, or leave it on auto. The page reads the symbol back to check it.

Questions
What is a Data Matrix code?+
A 2D barcode made of square modules inside an L-shaped border. It holds a lot of data in a small space and keeps reading when part of it is damaged, so it is used on electronics, medicine packs, parts and labels. The version made here is ECC 200, the one in use today.
What is GS1 DataMatrix?+
A Data Matrix that starts with a special FNC1 character and carries GS1 Application Identifiers, such as (01) for the GTIN, (17) for the expiry date, (10) for the batch and (21) for the serial number. Healthcare and regulated supply chains use it. Switch the content to GS1 and the tool builds and checks the string.
Can a phone camera read Data Matrix?+
Many can. Recent iPhones and Android phones read Data Matrix in the camera or with a scanner app, but not every camera app does. Industrial and retail scanners read it reliably. For links meant for the public, a QR code is the safer choice.
Square or rectangular?+
Square symbols hold the most data. Rectangular ones fit narrow spaces such as a pen, a cable or the edge of a label. DMRE adds more rectangular sizes; it is newer, so check your scanners read it.
What size should I print it?+
Set the module size, the width of one square. Around 0.25 to 0.6 mm suits most labels. Keep the quiet zone clear, and download SVG or PDF so the modules print sharp.
Is my data sent anywhere?+
No. The symbol is made and checked in your browser and the files are saved from your device.
