Referral tags, removed unless you untick the box: ref, ref_src, ref_url, referrer, si. A few sites use these for the page itself, so keep them if a cleaned link stops working.
Everything else stays exactly as written: the path, the other parameters in their order, and anything after the #.
Why clean a link
Tracking tags tell the site, and the ad network behind it, who shared the link and where it was clicked. They make a link long and ugly, and a long link makes a dense QR code that needs to be printed bigger.
Private by design
Links are cleaned in this browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and no link is opened.
Want a short link instead, with your own campaign tags kept on the destination? Shorten it to an aqr.li link you can change later and count clicks on, or make a free QR code for it.
Paste a link, or many links with one per line.
Tracking tags are cut out and shown in red, and redirect wrappers from Google, Outlook or Facebook are unwrapped.
Copy the clean links one by one, or all of them at once.
Questions
What does a URL cleaner remove?+
Tags that only record who shared or clicked a link: utm_ campaign tags, ad click IDs like fbclid, gclid and msclkid, email tags from Mailchimp and HubSpot, and share IDs added by YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X and Amazon. The full list is on the page.
Will the cleaned link still open the same page?+
Almost always. Only tracking tags are removed; the path, the other parameters and anything after the # are kept exactly as written. If a site uses ref for something real, untick the referral option and clean it again.
Can I clean many links at once?+
Yes. Paste up to 500 links, one per line, and copy all the clean ones in one go.
Are my links sent anywhere?+
No. They are cleaned in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and no link is opened.
Should I remove UTM tags from my own campaign links?+
Not from links you made to measure a campaign. Keep them, and if the link is too long for print, shorten it: a short link keeps the tags on the destination and makes a smaller QR code.
