How the payer uses it
- They open their banking app, start a transfer and choose the scan or photo option (often called Scan2Pay, GiroCode or Photo transfer).
- The app fills in the name, IBAN, amount and reference.
- They check the details and approve the transfer as usual. Nothing moves until they do.
Check the details before you print. This code only asks for a payment: the payer’s app shows the account holder, IBAN, amount and reference, and nothing is sent until they confirm it. Scan it once with your own app to be sure it points to you.

Questions
Is a SEPA QR code the same as a GiroCode or EPC QR code?+
Yes. The European Payments Council standard (EPC069-12) is the format; GiroCode, Scan2Pay and Zahlen mit Code are names banks use for it. This page makes version 002, where the BIC is optional.
Which banking apps can read it?+
Most banking apps in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland and many other SEPA countries. Look for a scan, photo transfer or GiroCode option when starting a transfer.
Do I need the BIC?+
Not for accounts inside the EEA. For Swiss, UK and a few other SEPA accounts some banks still ask for it, so add it if you have it.
Free text or RF reference?+
Use the RF creditor reference if your invoice has one, because it is checked and matched automatically. Otherwise use free text such as the invoice number. The format allows one or the other, not both.
Does the code transfer money on its own?+
No. The code only asks for a payment. The payer's app shows who is being paid and how much, and nothing is sent until they confirm it in their own app.
Is my IBAN uploaded?+
No. The code is built in your browser and read back on your device to check it scans. Nothing you type is sent to a server or stored.
