No. The phone opens Messages with the number and text filled in. The person taps Send, from their own phone, at their normal rates.
Should I choose sms: or SMSTO:?+
sms: for most uses: current iPhone and Android cameras open it directly. SMSTO: is an older QR format that some scanner apps prefer. Test on the phones your audience uses.
Can I use it for a keyword opt-in, like JOIN?+
Yes. Put the keyword in the message and your short code or number in the number field. Follow your carrier's and your country's consent rules for marketing texts.
Can I change the number or count scans?+
