Typewriter keys QR code generator

Each dot is a round typewriter keycap, and your own word is spelled across them one letter at a time, dark ink on cream paper. TYPE is the default; swap in a name, a pen name or a shop title in the Your word box. It reads as old-fashioned and handmade, with a modern code underneath.

Works well for

  • Author and bookshop bookmarks
  • Independent bookstore receipts and bags
  • Journalist and writer business cards
  • Stationery and print studio packaging

Printing tip

Pick a word of four to eight capitals; very long words get thin on the keys, so keep the code at least 3 cm (1.2 in) wide.

Static or dynamic: a static code never expires but its link can't change. Pick Dynamic above (free with an account) to change the link after printing and count every scan.

Questions

Which characters can I use on the keys?+

Capitals, digits and & + ! ?, plus <3 for a heart, up to 16 characters. Anything else is skipped, so use plain capitals for the best result.

Will the keycap letters affect scanning?+

The keys are dark on a light cream panel, the code uses the highest error correction level, and the design is tested with real QR code readers before it is published.

Can an author use it on a book cover?+

Yes. Link it to your website or a reading list, then download the SVG for the printer. It is free for commercial use with no watermark; a static code never expires.
