What VietQR is
VietQR is the shared QR code format for bank transfers in Vietnam, operated by the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) under the direction of the State Bank of Vietnam. A VietQR code identifies the receiving bank by its bank identification number (BIN) and includes the account or card number, so the payer does not have to type them. Transfers go through the NAPAS 24/7 fast transfer service, which runs around the clock.
The format follows the EMVCo Merchant-Presented Mode layout, with the currency code 704 (Vietnamese dong) and country code VN. Banks usually show the VietQR logo next to the code so customers know it works from any participating app.
How people use it
Individuals share VietQR codes from their banking apps to receive money, and small shops print them at the counter. A code can include a fixed amount and a transfer description, which helps a business match incoming payments to orders. Because the code points to a bank account, the payer’s app normally shows the account holder’s name before confirmation, which is worth checking.
