What DuitNow QR is
DuitNow QR is the common QR code standard for payments in Malaysia, operated by Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) and introduced in 2019. It is interoperable, which means a code issued by one bank or e-wallet can be scanned and paid by customers of other participating banks and e-wallets. It follows the EMVCo Merchant-Presented Mode format, with the currency code 458 (Malaysian ringgit) and country code MY.
DuitNow QR sits alongside DuitNow Transfer, the instant transfer service that lets people send money using a mobile number, identity card number or business registration number instead of an account number.
Where it is used
Merchants display DuitNow QR codes at counters, on invoices and at checkout, and individuals can generate personal codes in their banking apps. PayNet has also worked on cross-border QR links with some neighboring countries, so that visitors can pay local merchant codes from their home apps; which links are live depends on the participating institutions.
