Canva's QR code generator is a convenient app inside the design editor: paste a URL, get a static code, place it in your layout. AriaQR makes the code out of your image, verifies it scans before download, and lets you edit the destination and track scans afterward. If you are already designing in Canva and only need a basic code that goes to a page that will not change, Canva is enough; if the code is the artwork or the print run is expensive, make it on AriaQR and drop it into your design.
Does Canva have a QR code generator?
Yes. Canva offers a QR code app inside the editor. You enter a URL, adjust the code's color and background to sit with your design, and it lands on the canvas as an element you can resize and move. It is fast, it is free to use with a Canva account, and it keeps you inside the tool you were already working in. For a flyer or a slide, that convenience is the whole point.
What you get is a standard code: a grid of dark modules on a light background. You can recolor it, and you can place a logo over it in the editor the way people do with any image. The code does not know the logo is there, so whether it still scans after that is down to luck and the size of the logo. There is no verification step and no verdict.
The code is also static. The URL is encoded directly into the pattern. That is what people mean when they ask about "canva qr code validity" or whether it expires: it does not expire, because there is no service in the middle to expire. It simply points at the URL forever, which is a strength and a limitation at the same time.
What does AriaQR do differently?
AriaQR starts from the picture. Upload the artwork you were going to put on the poster anyway, a logo, a photo, an illustration, and the code lives inside it as a field of dots. The eyes and margins are translucent so the image shows through. With "Code in your image", the code is placed inside a larger poster or photo and you get the full artwork back with the code blended in. The result looks like a design element because it is one. The visual difference is laid out in regular QR vs AriaQR.
Before you download, every code is verified on real decoders under real-world conditions: distance, angle, low light, small size. You see the verdict first, "verified" or "scans up close only". Standard builds are for screens and prints of 4 cm and up; Small print builds are verified down to about 1.5 cm for cards, labels, and stickers.
Most kinds are dynamic by default. The code encodes an AriaQR short link, so you can change where it goes after the posters are up, and every scan is counted. Wi-Fi and payment codes stay static and work offline in any scanner. You then download a 2048px master PNG, with or without a white border, and place it in Canva or any other tool.

Can you track a Canva QR code?
Not with the code itself. A static code sends the phone directly to the URL. There is no redirect and no counter, so "canva qr code tracking" is really a question about the destination: you could point the code at a tracked link from another service and read the clicks there, which works but means managing two tools.
AriaQR tracks by default. The dashboard shows total scans, unique visitors without cookies, scans per day, an hour-of-day heatmap in the scanner's local time, device and OS split, in-app browser detection, and location to city or postal code when the network allows, plus a real map. Placements let you print one code per poster or venue and compare them side by side. CSV export, a read-only share link, and alerts for the first scan or a broken destination are included. QR code analytics explained walks through each number.
Why would a Canva QR code not work?
When people search "canva qr code not working", the cause is almost never the generator. It is one of the usual failure points for any static code: it was printed too small, the color contrast was too low against the background, a logo was layered over too much of it, the URL had a typo, or the destination page moved after printing. The last one is the painful one, because a static code cannot be fixed. The posters have to be reprinted.
With AriaQR the code is verified on real decoders under real-world conditions before download, and if the destination changes later you edit the link instead of the print. Daily link-health checks and a broken-destination alert tell you before your customers do. Details are in editable destinations and alerts and dynamic vs static QR codes.
Where to start
If your design is in Canva and the code goes to a stable page, use the built-in generator and keep moving. If the code is going on packaging, a billboard, a wedding sign, or anything else you cannot cheaply reprint, make it on AriaQR first, check the verdict, download the master, and place it in Canva like any other image. No account is needed to make and buy; sign in later to keep every code together.
Who should pick which
Pick Canva's QR code generator if you are already in Canva, the code is a small part of a bigger layout, and the destination will never change. It is free with the account you already have, it works with your team's shared workspace and brand kit, and it takes under a minute.
Pick AriaQR if the code should look like part of the artwork, if you want a verdict before the print run, or if you need to edit the destination and see who scanned. Brand and event teams, agencies, and hospitality get the most out of it. Pay once per code or subscribe; see pricing.
