The logo test

How famous logos come out as codes.

We took 23 logos everyone knows and uploaded each one the way you would yours: as it is, no redrawing, no retouching. What came back is below. Every code was checked before it went on this page, and every one of them scans.

  • 23 codes, every one verified

All 23, by kind

Four kinds of logo. Four ways it works.

Each tile starts on the logo as it was uploaded and turns into its code as you reach it. Hover over a tile, or tap it, to see the original again. Scan any code from the screen: they all open this page.

01

Mark with the name under it

8 logos

The symbol fills the middle and the name runs along the bottom edge, between two finder corners. Short, bold names come through cleanest.

Name inside the mark

4 logos

Letters cut out of a solid shape. The dots run through the colour, and the lettering stays readable because the contrast was there to begin with.

The North Face

A solid red block with the name knocked out in white. The code takes the brand red as its ground, finder corners and all, and the white lettering still reads at a glance.

03

Seal or badge shapes

4 logos

Rounds, ovals and buns sit well in a square. The badge keeps its outline; the white around it is where the code does its quieter work.

Wordmark only

7 logos

No symbol, only letters. The type stays crisp, and the open space above and below the word carries most of the code.

Coca-Cola

Pure script on white, no symbol at all. The letters keep their flow and their red; the open space above and below the word carries most of the code.

What the set shows

Your logo, the same way.

  1. 1

    Upload it as it is

Every logo here went in square, padded on its own background, never cropped. No redrawing and no special version for the code.

  2. 2

    Keep the corners clear

Three corners of every code are finder squares. A logo with its key detail in the middle and some room around it comes out best.

  3. 3

    Contrast does the work

Bold shapes and strong colour against a plain ground read as logo and as code at once. Very pale marks still work, but the dots show more.

  4. 4

    A colour block is fine

A logo on a solid colour keeps that colour as the ground of the code, as The North Face red does. No white box is pasted over it.
